How Do Arctic Series Cold Weather Heat Pumps Work?
Arctic Series cold weather heat pumps are considered as one of the best heat pumps for cold climates. This factory controller system can manage two zones and unlimited zones along with the MX controller. The cold climate heat pump can be used for:
· Space heating
· Space heating and cooling
· Cooling
When you set Heating and Cooling, the heat pump will control both a 3 way zone valve and circulation pump. The heat pump will use the tank temperature sensors and an air temperature sensor built into the controller to switch on and set its default to the priority zone. It can be set either buffer tank for heating or air temperature sensor for cooling until it reaches the set temperature.
For instance, if cooling is your main priority, the cold climate heat pump will cool down the room at the set temperature. After that, the 3-way valve will get diverted to buffer heating zone tank and the heat pump will then switch to heating applications to best fit the energy needs of the buffer tank.
However, the buffer tank provides heat to different zones like domestic hot water, space heating, pool and hot tubs. Again if the cooling zone needs cooling, the 3-way valve will switch to cooling zone and the heat pump will work in reverse to provide enough cooling.
How do buffer tanks to be used in different zones?
Pool or Hot Tub Heating or Cooling
Using a second zone valve, the Arctic Heat Pump is capable of heating both a swimming pool and hot tub spa. During summer, you can set the mode to heat pool or tub and cool the buffer tank to providing zone cooling facilities.
Remember that, Hydronic heating can’t be utilized for cooling applications so you need fan coils for cooling in summer. A seasonal valve will isolate radiant floor heat as it won’t be used for cooling purposes.
Domestic Water Heating and Cooling
For domestic water heating and cooling, a second zone valve is added to heat both the buffer tank and domestic hot water. In summer days, this mode can be set to heat the domestic hot water and cool the buffer tank to provide cooling to zones.
However, hydronic heating can be used for cooling purposes by using MX controller which is responsible for radiant floor cooling. By monitoring the dew point and combining water, it’s done so that condensation doesn’t occur.
Advanced Heating and Cooling
Using a Resol MX Controller and PAW Modular Hydronic Heating Solution, Arctic Cold Climate Heat Pump is capable of catering to the heating and cooling needs of larger residential and commercial systems. To get optimal efficiency, different heating sources can be combined like heat pump with solar.
Fan Coil Heating and Cooling
Through the use of buffer tank, the fan coil heating and cooling is done easily. Both the heating and cooling zones are controlled by personalized room thermostats present on the fan coils. There’s a centralized controller that connects to the zone pump.
When any of the room zones require heating or cooling, they’ll close their connection and activate the heat pump. Moreover, every fan coil features an internal 3-way valve so that the fan coils with heating or cooling demand will allow the flow. Change the heat pump to heat or cool in order to determine whether the buffer tank stores hot water or cold water.
