How Does Integrating Solar Thermal System and Air-Source Heat Pump Work?

Solar evacuated tubes use heat pipe technology that helps in transferring solar energy to the heat bulb. The heat bulb can be able to attain temperatures up to 300 C. Every collector has 20 or 30 bulbs that are inserted into an insulated copper header known as a heat exchanger. The heat pipes transfer their heat energy to the copper header and to a special glycol heating fluid. 

Every header contains 2.2 liters or 0.6 gallons of the heating fluid. A temperature sensor is inserted into the header heat exchanger. When the heating fluid in the top part of the collector goes above the temperature of the water inside the storage tank, the pump gets activated which enables starting the energy transfer. The hot heating fluid gets circulated through the large heat exchanger present on the bottom part of the tank. After that, the energy is transferred to the storage tank and then delivered to the remaining home heating system.
